The Epilepsy Foundation of Rochester-Syracuse-Binghamton will kick off GardenScape 2010 with a special preview party of this spectacular flower and garden show on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 from 5:30 - 8:00 p.m. at the Monroe County Fair and Expo Center in Henrietta. The preview party, known as A Taste of Spring, is a fund-raiser for the Epilepsy Foundation, a non-profit human services agency serving the needs of area residents affected by epilepsy and related disabilities.

Guests of A Taste of Spring will stroll through dozens of amazing gardens and enjoy a reception complete with heavy hors d’oeuvre, wine, beer, and cocktail tastings, desserts, and live music a day in advance of the show’s public run from March 11-14. Tickets are $$50 and this includes entry into the gardens as well as the food and beverage tastings. The Epilepsy Foundation will hold a silent auction of garden and home-related items, a raffle for a beautiful handmade quilt from the Quilt Room in Penn Yan, NY and will sell fresh flowers at the preview event and at the show itself.

The Center for Rehabilitation at Episcopal SeniorLife Communities has started “Wellness Resources”-an innovative way to interact with our physical and occupational therapists right from our new website. In celebration of the new site, we’re looking for anyone with an interesting rehabilitation story! Just tell us about your successful recovery from a surgery or injury and you could win. Three stories will be selected, and each winner will receive a gift card to Crescent Beach Restaurant along with being featured in our “Wellness Resources.” Just visit www.episcopalseniorlife.org to submit your successful story. Entries must be less than 1,000 words and will be judged on creativity, thoughtfulness, and level of success. We’re ready to hear about some inspiring rehabilitation stories. Quick! Strong National Museum of Play presents Hot Diggity Dogs! Sat. March 13th from 11am to 4pm and Sun. March 14th from 1 to 4pm. Festivities include: Shake paws with Wegman's Bruiser and beloved children's literacy characters Biscuit and Clifford the Big Red Dog as they stroll around the museum and greet guests! Meet trained therapy dogs from Lollypop Farm's Pet Assisted Therapy Program, and retired racing greyhounds from Greyhound Adoption of Greater Rochester. Join in doggy sing-alongs and stories with Old Mother Hubbard from the famous nursery rhyme. Play with plush Folkmanis dog and cat puppets. Meet local artist Laura Wilder and see a display of her dog-inspired works. Learn about pet first aid with the American Red Cross.

Museum Hours: Monday-Thursday, 10am to 5pm; Friday and Saturday 10am to 8pm; Sunday Noon to 5pm.

Admission Fees: General Admission- Adults $$11; Seniors $$10; Children (2-15) $$9; Children younger than two and Strong members are free.

Parking: Free parking is available at the museum for all guests on a first-come, first-served basis. If space is not available on site at the time of your visit, you will be directed to additional parking at neighboring municipal garages (fees may apply).

Rochester-area youngsters will shine as they showcase their many talents at Kids Performing for Kids, a day brimming with music, dance, martial arts demonstrations, robotics displays, andmuch more at Strong National Museum of Play on Sat. March 20th from 10am to 4pm.

The day's schedule: 11am to 2pm- FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition Teams from Churchville-Chili High School and Fairport High school demonstrate their team-built robts. 11am- Cara D'Emanuele Studio voice students perform Broadway tunes. T.C. Armstrong Middle Schoolers perform selections from the Disney musical Mulan Jr. Noon- Hochstein School of Music and Dance student Holly Kelsey (who has appeared on TV commercials, stage shows, plays and a local dinner theater since age three) sings popular music from radio, TV, and Broadway. Dancers and musicians of Capoeira Mandinga showcase a national martial-arts sport originally developed by African slaves in Brazil. 1pm- Amadeus Chorale Youth Singers present musical selections. The VOA Steppers demonstrate step-team routines. 2pm- Golden Eagle Martial Arts students demonstrate basics of sparring and self defense. 3pm- Rince Rochester Dance Company students present traditional Irish dances as well as routines by their newest ballerinas. Gymnastics Training Center of Rochester, Inc. students demonstrate floor tumbling and exercises.

On view throughout the day is a giant mural created by third-grade students of the Holley Central School District.
